Students and researchers benefit from engaging with immersive virtual environments. These virtual environments can already be found in many places, but they are scattered, disorganized and in many cases difficult to use due to licensing. ESIE eliminates those challenges and allows educators and researchers to use 360-degree camera recording kits to share unique experiences and environments from their local areas and upload them into ESIE where layers of information can be added to enhance the experience.

ESIE can be used as a virtual reality teaching tool focused on locations, landmarks and objects in New York State and beyond. These images in turn are shared throughout the rest of New York State for other educators and researchers to use and develop custom applications.
